Alpine Intro Book

Alpine Mountaineering by Bruce Goodlad

Bruce has written an Alpine Intro book titled Alpine Mountaineering - Essential Knowledge for budding Alpinists.

The book has been 14 months in the making but is the culmination of 20 years of Alpine Climbing and more than 10 years guiding in the Alps and around the world. When asked what inspired him to write the book Bruce replied; "when I sat down to write the book I wanted to create a guide for people who wanted to come and enjoy the Alps but didn't know where to start and didn't know who to ask for advice. There are two big issues when learning to climb in the Alps there are the techniques that a mountaineer needs to travel safely through the mountains and the knowledge of where to practice these techniques so that these skills can be practiced and developed. I wanted to take the reader through all the kit they will need, how to use it and then share some great routes that I have climbed over the years."

The book covers all the essential skills of glacier travel and crevasse rescue which are specific to alpine terrain but also covers moving together, belay anchors using ice screws as well as all the logistical things needed to operate efficiently in the Alps making the most of your time in the mountains.
