Security and Insurance
The local people are committed to preserving their tourism and offer a friendly welcome, dozens of visits to the area by friends and colleagues have found no problems and we are happy to travel to the region and send clients there.
The Foreign Office do advise against non essential travel to the region due to an incident with some aid workers from Chechnya a few years ago. There has been no recent trouble and we are happy to travel and send clients to the area.
You will need full medical and rescue insurance for your Elbrus climb, we recommend www.ihi.com which is a Danish company that offer world wide cover and rescue insurance which will cover you from the Antarctic to Everest. Current rates are about £100/ e140 for annual cover (Aug 11).
