Kasbek and Elbrus Information
Elbrus is now open again so we will be running trips again this summer 2012.
We offer a number of different ways for our clients to climb Mt Elbrus, and continuously work with our Russian partners, headed by Alexey Shustrov, to come up with a range of options that will suit most people.
This season we are offering fixed departure dates for those people wishing to join a group. This group may be made up of climbers from different nationalities and will be guided by one of our experienced Russian guides. These fixed departures are all 9 day trips and climb climb the mountain by one of 3 possible routes; the North, South or West sides, details below.
We also offer a private trip, if you have a group already made up, with a private Russian guide, as well as the option to have a western IFMGA guide to accompany you throughout the trip. The programs we offer below are the minimum time you would need to climb a mountain of this altitude, should you wish a longer acclimatisation period or to extend your trip in any other way please do get in touch.
All the trips offer the same high quality service to and from Mineralnie Vody airport.
You can download the full range of options in PDF form.
The local people are committed to preserving their tourism and offer a friendly welcome, dozens of visits to the area by friends and colleagues have found no problems and we are happy to travel to the region and send clients there.
The Foreign Office do advise against non essential travel to the region due to an incident with some aid workers from Chechnya a few years ago. There has been no recent trouble and we are happy to travel and send clients to the area.
Read more...The closest airport to Elbrus is Mineralnye Vody which is reached via Moscow. We would strongly recommend you to fly with Aeroflot as if there are any problems with connections they will look after you in Moscow. If you arrive in Moscow with another carrier they are not always the best at this.
Read more...You will need a visa to enter the Russian Federation. The process for obtaining a visa is relatively simple. When you book your Elbrus trip you need to supply us with a copy of your passport and nominate a Russian Embassy or Consular office you would like to deal with. A list of world wide offices can be found at www.russianembassy.net
